Together, 2000
I found a big Chestnut in Vejby Churchyard in Denmark. I admired
the strength, beauty and massiveness of this old tree. So I wanted to
draw attention to the situation, to bring people together under
the lovely breeze-ruffled leaves. I made two curved paradise-granite
benches around the tree. I worked on the first semicircular bench in its
final upright position, the other one I worked on and finally also left
upside down. The tree unites these existentially "different" halves like
in a church Holy Communion, our own semi-circle meets the other
semi-circle of our forefathers in heaven.
